Hexcam BWh by daisukekazama Hexcam BWh by daisukekazama
Another Hexcam variant: desert pattern! 'BWh,' as usual, references the Köppen climate classification system ('desert climate').

Tiles perfectly. No ruler this time, because I'm lazy.

This is, incidentally, the last pattern as scheduled in the Hexcam family. I will take (free) requests for custom patterns.

Not really, since I'm actually sort of dying from the workload over here (I daydream about gun designs in the boring lectures, though).

Hey, if you have time to daydream, you have time to sketch gun designs. :D

As long as it makes a defined human silhouette look like something other than a defined human silhouette, I could care less.

Hmmm.. according to my friend, if I were to go out in the middle of the woulds wearing hot pink camoflauge with diffrent shades of it in the shape of triangles I would technically blend in since no ones looking for said object...possible or no?

'Blend in,' definitely not. 'Catch the enemy off guard,' maybe.

In that case the hexagons do a pretty nice job mimicking the blotchy look of Flectarn.

Flectarn patterns' groupings are usually oriented a bit more diagonally (or vertical) since it was originally designed as a woodland pattern (and trees grow that way :P).

Either way, it is good work and an interesting approach that certainly does a better job than if someone used squares to attempt the same thing. I also dig the name Hexcam, its catchy :)

Thanks :) Yeah, I first thought of using hexagons while designing a fictional replacement for the JGSDF Flecktarn. Squares and rectangles don't work very well.

As a camo designer myself, I dont think your dispersal breaks up the contour of a body enough. Your colors for blending are okay for the most part.. maybe grey out the green a bit and lighten the base... and put a darker (the brown for desert I suppose) color for one of your predominant layers and it would be better. Right now you have your 3 lightest colors as the 3 most predominant colors and from a distance they blend together and don't break up the shape of an object (one of the main goals of camouflage) as well as they should. Not trying to put you down or anything, was just trying to give constructive criticism from the viewpoint of a professional in the field.

You wouldn't be able to put me down for no greater reason than that I wasn't trying to make a camouflage pattern that would actually be practical in true-world combat (^^;) You lay claim to being a professional in camouflage design; I don't. My objective here was to simply make it look (aesthetically) good.

I appreciate your constructive feedback. I don't have much in the way of counterpoints, but this pattern is a practical copy of the German desertized flecktarn pattern. Your thoughts on that?

Do you intend to do the rest of the other climates, as well? You seem to have focused more on European climates + this.

Nah - the way I'm working, it'd take too long. Besides, these patterns are suitable for climates other than the ones they're designed for; it's just that the Hexcam template was intended as the standard camouflage of the fictional 'European Federation Defense Forces,' hence the European bias.
